Artist's Comments
This was a commission for a friend, and I feel like it needs a little explaining to anyone who doesn't know her. She's got these two gerbils, you see, which she adores. She got married, and wanted to commission me for something for the wedding album, but ultimately decided a portrait of her and the husband was too conventional. Because animals are definitely my thing, she asked me to do something with the gerbils. I got lots of photo reference for the cake (That was an awesome cake, by the way, with the red swirlies) and the cake toppers (princess and frog salt and pepper shakers) and the gerbils, Flower and Voldemort. Voldie would be the one with red eyes, while Flower is the one trying to steal a frog kiss. The composition just struck me the moment she said she wanted something with the gerbils...
